Wireless device technology requires much innovation to increase its ability to address medical applications. For several decades, body implants such as pacemakers and hearing aids have been used to treat organ dysfunction and related medical problems. The WiserBAN project, supported by funding under the 7th Framework Program of the European Union, was announced today and is aiming to provide smarter wireless communications devices with reduced size and lower energy consumption for medical applications. Medical applications have helped industrial-related chips surpass automotive for analog ICs in revenue since 2008 and remain a strong growth segment.
