New Members Appointed to American Heart Association Board of Directors

Four new members have been appointed to the board of directors of the American Heart Association.

CHICAGO, Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Four new members have been appointed to the board of directors of the American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate for a two-year term. In this role, they will help lead the association in building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, through oversight of local revenue generation and health impact activities. The American Heart Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization devoted to fighting cardiovascular disease.

The new board members are:

  • Thomas Boyden Jr., M.D. M.S., of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Boyden is an invasive, non-interventional cardiologist and medical director, Preventive Cardiology with Spectrum Health Medical Group. He has clinical expertise in hypertension, dyslipidemia and peripheral vascular disease. He is also president of the West Michigan American Heart Association Board of Directors.
  • Gail Hasbrouck, Esq, of Chicago. Ms. Hasbrouck is a legal expert and seasoned board director with broad-based expertise in health care, mergers and acquisitions, compliance, risk management, business and financial arrangements, and corporate governance. She is a board member and former senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of Advocate Health Care.
  • David Hefner of Detroit. Mr. Hefner is the vice president for Health Affairs at Wayne State University. Previous posts include president of the University of Chicago Medical Center and chief operating officer of Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
  • Dr. Matt Pearce of Republic, Missouri. Dr. Pearce is assistant superintendent of the Republic School District, and he has a personal connection to heart disease: his daughter was born with a congenital heart defect.

As members of the Midwest Affiliate Board of Directors, they will help oversee the American Heart Association’s efforts in an 11-state region, comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
