Medtronic, Inc., Eli Lilly and Company to Collaborate on Parkinson’s

WSJ -- Medtronic Inc. and Eli Lilly & Co. agreed to collaborate on a Parkinson's disease treatment that would circumvent a technical challenge posed by the anatomy of the brain.

The partnership represents Medtronic's latest attempt to get medication past the blood-brain barrier, a tightly packed network of cells in brain capillaries that only lets certain substances through, including key nutrients. The barrier has posed a major challenge for drug makers hoping to treat serious diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
