Med-Device Study Isn’t Out Yet; Industry Attacks It Anyway

Supporters of the med-tech industry are bashing a scientific report on the use of medical devices, although the report hasn’t been published yet. The New York Times looks at the “pre-emptive strike” against the Institute of Medicine’s report, commissioned by the Food and Drug Adminstration, that could propose tougher regulations for devices like defibrillators and hip replacements. The report is scheduled to be released later today, but business groups are challenging its credibility and said the panel is unfairly stacked against the industry.
