MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- To help patients with diabetes better understand and manage their condition, LifeScan, Inc., makers of the nation’s top selling OneTouch® Brand of blood glucose monitors, has become a sponsor of HealthyOutcomes.com, an incentive-based diabetes education website. Developed by David Kliff, founder of the publication Diabetic Investor, HealthyOutcomes.com’s unique, free diabetes health and wellness program allows people with diabetes to “learn and earn.” Individuals earn points for viewing educational modules, monitoring their blood sugar levels, and participating in surveys and other behaviors that can lead to better health outcomes. Participants can then redeem their points for a variety of health-related products.
With LifeScan’s support, HealthyOutcomes.com recently launched the new “Reaching Target” program, which emphasizes the importance of blood glucose testing by allowing patients to earn points for testing regularly, according to their healthcare professional’s recommendations. The program then helps them understand what their blood sugar results mean, and gives them suggestions about keeping their levels within a healthy range. To earn points for testing, program participants test their blood glucose using a OneTouch® Verio®IQ Meter and upload their results to HealthyOutcomes.com using OneTouch® Diabetes Management Software. LifeScan will provide all qualifying patients with a complete OneTouch® Verio®IQ System at no charge if they don’t already have one. The OneTouch® Diabetes Management Software is a free download.
“We’re pleased to support HealthyOutcomes.com and its unique approach to educating and motivating people to help manage their diabetes as part of our commitment to serving the diabetes community,” said Ty Lee, Vice President, North American Marketing, LifeScan, Inc. “We recognize it can be a challenge for many people to stay informed and motivated on a daily basis, and we believe this interactive program may help make the effort a little easier and more rewarding for them.”
Diabetes self-management education is a critical element of care for all people with diabetes and is necessary in order to improve patient outcomes1. In addition, self monitoring of blood glucose provides the day to day data to help patients achieve their target A1c levels. The interactive modules on HealthyOutcomes.com offer such patient education in the form of tutorials and videos and focus on such topics as medications and insulin, exercise and fitness, and diabetes devices, with content that is engaging and easy to navigate. Individuals can also ask questions directly to a diabetes educator or expert.
