Wynnewood, Pa. (September 4, 2013) - The Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR), the research arm of Main Line Health, has been awarded a 5-year, $625,000 grant from the W.W. Smith Charitable Trust to initiate promising avenues of cancer research.
“We are incredibly excited about the research opportunities that will be afforded through this grant,” states George Prendergast, Ph.D., President and CEO of LIMR.
Researchers at LIMR are currently developing breast cancer diagnostic tools to improve patient care and outcomes. One project involves identifying markers for early stage breast cancers that are thought to be curable through conventional avenues of treatment, but are not. Another test being developed will determine whether the toxicity from chemotherapy would be too severe for a patient before they need to be admitted to the hospital for chemotherapy complications.
