LIVERMORE, CA (December 28, 2010) – LabSmith, Inc., developer of tools for science, will contribute equipment and expertise for participants in the Microfluidics I/II Short Course to be held Jan 29 and 30, 8:30am - 4:30pm. The two-day course, which will be held as part of the LabAutomation 2011, will serve to introduce microfluidics technology and its applications for the life sciences. Attendees will receive a compact overview of the important aspects of working with liquids in confined spaces as well as handling of minute amounts of chemicals for the development of functional lab-on-a-chip devices.
Instructors will be: Jörg P. Kutter, Ph.D., Dept. of Micro and Nanotechnology, Technical University of Denmark; Johan Nilsson, Ph.D., Department of Electrical Measurement, Lund University; and Sabeth Verpoorte, Ph.D., Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy, University of Groningen.
In support of this educational opportunity LabSmith will be providing its LabPackage microfluidic equipment and components, which provide complete control and visualization of microfluidic and nanofluidic transport phenomena and related experiments. The LabPackage includes CapTite™ microfluidic components, microfluidic ChipShop polymer chips, the HVS448 High Voltage Sequencer, SPS01 Syringe Pumps and the SVM340 Synchronized Video Microscope. The workshop will provide a unique opportunity to learn about these products in a highly focused learning environment.
The workshop is open to LabAutomation meeting attendees, who can sign up for the session when registering for the Meeting. Fee: $900 for SLAS members, $1000 for non-members. More information is available at www.slas.org/LA11/courses/microfluidics.cfm.
CAPTION FOR ENCLOSED PHOTO: The LabSmith LabPackage is useful for training in microfluidics and transport. Shown here is everything necessary to control an electrokinetic and pressure-driven flow transport experiment. It will be used to illustrate the principles covered in the Microfluidics I-II short course to be held at LabAutomation, Jan 29-30, 2011 in Palm Springs, CA. A high resolution version of this photo is enclosed.
