Keynote Speakers Announced For MEDTECH 2015

Opportunities for Collaboration and Growth at Annual Conference

[Buffalo, NY, August 25, 2015] — On October 14 – 15 MedTech Association will host its annual conference, MEDTECH 2015 – “Convergence: Building Momentum for Growth” at the HarborCenter in Buffalo, NY. The conference is the largest gathering of top executives and senior leaders from New York State’s bioscience and medical technology (Bio/Med) industry, this year focusing on the need to re-think the way players interact in the healthcare industry – from development through adoption – leveraging the strengths of non-traditional partnerships to produce groundbreaking results. An elite group of speakers will be featured at the conference to stimulate discussion around generating growth for the industry in New York State and beyond.

A well-received returning speaker from last year’s conference, John Babitt, partner of the life science practice at Ernst and Young LLP, has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare and will share insights about the state of the industry, differentiating products and services while avoiding commoditization, as well as, the future of the Bio/Med industry. In response to Babitt’s keynote, a group of industry leaders representing the pharmaceutical and medical device markets, payers and academia, moderated by MedTech Board Chairman and Senior Vice President of Welch Allyn, Scott Gucciardi, will respond to the industry forecast, identifying the opportunities and challenges for their unique verticals. Christophe Bureau, PhD., vice president of strategic innovation at Stevanato Group S.p.A., will serve as this year’s lunch keynote, discussing how disruptive innovation can lead to tremendous growth in the industry. He assists companies to establish out-of-the-core innovation driven growth strategies, including the creation of new concepts, product and prototype development and processes around technology scouting, incubation, partnerships, funding and consumer validation. Dr. Bureau also developed a medical device now being implanted in 150,000 patients generating above $100M in revenue and has more than 15 years of experience infusing innovation to the healthcare, cosmetics and microelectronics markets.

Mike Svinte, vice president at Watson Health, IBM, will provide insight into the next steps for the company and real world case studies on how collaborations and mergers with the healthcare industry are advancing the market, including those with CVS, Johnson & Johnson, Apple, Medtronic and Merge Healthcare, an imaging and radiology leader. IBM Watson Health’s mission is to bring together big data, analyze it and apply it to all sorts of real-world situations, from drug discovery and clinical trials to patient treatment. Svinte brings more than 30 years experience in global healthcare leadership.
