(TAMPA, FLORIDA, USA, 15 December 2011) – ISPE announced today that is has reintroduced the Certified Pharmaceutical Industry Professional™ (CPIP™) credential with revised Eligibility and Recertification requirements and a simplified application processes. CPIP seekers will now experience streamlined eligibility and re-certification requirements, earlier access to the program for Young Professionals, and a greater focus on pharmaceutical industry-specific knowledge and skills.
ISPE’s Professional Certification Commission (PCC), an independent body within ISPE that is responsible for overseeing the CPIP credential, recommended these changes in order to ensure that the program is accessible and beneficial to pharmaceutical professionals around the world. “Our goal for the CPIP program has always been to positively impact the pharmaceutical industry, and this review has reaffirmed that the CPIP credential has the power to do just that,” said Ken Ewan, Chair of the PCC. “It is our hope and belief that the changes we are implementing will empower even greater numbers of our industry colleagues to embrace the benefits of CPIP certification and set themselves apart as competent, dedicated technical professionals.”
The PCC’s revised vision for the CPIP credential shifts focus to a career “life-cycle” management approach to technical competencies and the assessment and maintenance of those competencies as requirements for awarding the credential. Education and experience requirements remain important parts of the CPIP eligibility application process, but written exemplars, which focused on non-pharmaceutical-specific skills, have been eliminated from the process. Similarly, the re-certification process has been revised to a three-year process, with an increased emphasis placed on maintaining and demonstrating core pharmaceutical specific technical abilities.
