Incisive Surgical to Launch Next Generation More User-Friendly Absorbable Skin Stapler at American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist

Important New Surgical Site Infection Study Presented

Issuance Of Notice of Allowance of Key Stapler Patent

MINNEAPOLIS, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Incisive Surgical, Inc. today announced that it will launch a significantly more user-friendly next generation version of its INSORB Absorbable Skin Stapler at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists being held in Chicago from May 4 - 6, 2009. The INSORB(R)|25 Skin Stapler is a patented medical device that places an absorbable staple underneath the skin to close surgical incisions. An important surgical site infection (SSI) study will be presented at the Meeting reviewing the experience of two community hospitals using the INSORB Stapler in 877 consecutive cesarean sections resulting in an overall SSI rate of 0.8% which the authors stated “compares favorably to SSI rates in similar studies of cesarean section incisions with conventional closure modalities.” In addition, the Company announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a Notice of Allowance for its patent application, “Mechanical Method and Apparatus for Tissue Fastening.” The allowed claims include subject matter covering the method of the INSORB Skin Closure technology and specific stapler features.

“We are pleased to announce the launch of our next generation device, the INSORB|25 Subcuticular Skin Stapler, at the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists Meeting,” said John L. Shannon, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Incisive Surgical. “The INSORB Skin Stapler represents a revolutionary new skin closure technology, offering unique benefits to patients, clinicians and hospitals. Incisive Surgical has received many national awards, including the Wall Street Journal 2006 Technology Innovation Award in the medical devices industry category which recognizes the profound value proposition of our technology. We continue to expand the usage of the INSORB Stapler across an increased number of surgical procedures and specialties. This next generation version of the INSORB|25 Stapler features a 25% stronger absorbable Staple and a significantly easier-to-use technique. A single clinician can quickly close an entire incision with the INSORB Stapler and a single standard Adson forceps.”

“We are also pleased with the results of a recent surgical site infection study involving the INSORB Stapler closing 877 consecutive cesarean sections with a clinically significant low rate of 0.8%. And, we continue to strengthen and broaden the intellectual property portfolio of the Company with the addition of a key new patent covering strong claims for our Stapler.”
