SOUTH BEND, Ind., March 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Transforming lives is the mission of Heraeus Kulzer, LLC, the worldwide leader in dental esthetics. Some of the lives the company helps transform have dental problems resulting from unfortunate genes or bad luck. Others, however, are suffering from dental problems that are self-inflicted. One of those individuals is a thirty-five year-old Texan woman named Karen.

After years of drug addiction that, among other things, caused her to suffer the ravages of severe tooth decay, Karen not only turned her life around but began to study dental assisting. Unfortunately, because of the appearance of her smile, she was unable to find a job. She was then referred to the Arlington, Texas office of Susan Hollar, DDS.
When Dr. Hollar heard of Karen’s difficulty in finding a job and her inability to pay for dental treatment, she decided to search for a sponsor to donate the materials that would be needed for the case. Heraeus was the only company she needed to ask, as the company quickly agreed to her request.
Soon thereafter, Dr. Hollar began deep cleanings, mounted models using Heraeus’ Flexitime® impression material, and did a bite analysis. With those records, she developed both a short- and long-term treatment plan that included additional deep cleanings, a re-evaluation of Karen’s periodontal condition, elimination of all decay, cosmetic bonding on teeth 6-through-11, and eventually implants and porcelain restorations to replace missing teeth.
One week after the treatment was completed, Karen stopped by the practice to report that she was very comfortable with the added length and fullness of her new teeth. She also said that everyone that she had come into contact with that week commented on how great she looked. She then thanked Dr. Hollar and staff and presented them gifts, cookies and cards expressing her deepest appreciation for restoring her smile and giving her back her confidence.
“Karen’s gratitude allowed us to fully understand what a positive impact we have had on her, and made us feel truly blessed to be a part of her life,” said Dr. Hollar. “Dentistry becomes an incredibly rewarding profession when we can play such an important role in our patients’ lives.”
Nicole Turner, Heraeus Director of Marketing, said, “When Dr. Hollar approached us, it was touching to see how determined she was to help this brave woman get her life back on the right track. We are thrilled for Karen, and we are very proud to have our company and our materials associated with a practitioner as caring and talented as Dr. Susan Hollar.”
This story is part of Heraeus’ on-going “TLC: Transforming Lives Chronicles” series about dental professionals who have partnered with the company to have a profound impact on a patient’s life. By chronicling these inspirational stories, the company hopes to create awareness among both the dental community and the public of the truly amazing things that can happen when talented, caring clinicians take advantage of state-of-the-art dental materials and techniques.
Dr. Hollar began her dental career by first earning a dental hygiene degree, and then earning her dental degree five years later. She is an expert in advanced restorative and cosmetic dentistry and has won numerous awards. She maintains a private practice in Arlington, where she limits her practice to restorative and cosmetic procedures. She was voted “Best Cosmetic Dentist” by her peers in Fort Worth Magazine, Texas Monthly, and D Magazine for five consecutive years, something no other dentist has accomplished. She is an Accredited Fellow, one of 50 dentists in the world, by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Hollar also serves as an examiner for that organization, and as a board member of the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry. She is one of only forty-three dentists in the world deemed a Pankey Scholar, and she is a frequent lecturer and a visiting faculty member with The Pankey Institute and The Scottsdale Center for Dentistry.
