Researchers studied sets of twins in which one twin developed Alzheimer’s and the other didn’t. They found that the twin with Alzheimer’s was four times more likely to have had gum disease by middle age. They say the results show that certain preventive measures, including practicing good oral health habits, can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
