INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Harlan Laboratories, a leading contract research organization and research models and services company, is pleased to announce that the company has expanded its disease-preconditioned animal model and imaging services (MRI and CT) at its specialty research center in Israel. These enhanced services support the growing requirements of researchers to quickly and efficaciously evaluate therapeutic compounds or medical devices in models exhibiting the characteristics of the targeted condition.

Through this expansion, Harlan Laboratories offers chemically, genetically and surgically preconditioned models for numerous disease states including: autoimmune disease, diabetes, cancer, tissue repair, metabolism and obesity, and osteoporosis. In addition, Harlan Laboratories has expanded its imaging services with state-of-the-art MRI and CT scanning technology that provides an effective, efficient and humane approach to understanding disease biology, and evaluating therapeutic options in animal models.

“Harlan has developed proven, GLP-validated methods for inducing specific disease-state phenotypic responses in research models, which helps our customers assess the therapeutic benefits of their pharmaceutical compounds, biological products and medical devices,” said Joe Meyer, Vice President of Global Commercial Operations, Harlan Laboratories. “By supplying the experimental models, conducting the evaluation study and reporting the results, Harlan provides a comprehensive service platform for the evaluation of potential therapies and devices.”

According to Nathan Ezov, General Manager, Harlan Israel, the extension of these services was a natural progression for Harlan Laboratories. “Expanding these specific services is another example of Harlan understanding the growing needs of our customers and responding in a way that makes their research efforts more efficient and effective,” said Ezov. “The feedback we have received has been very positive, as researchers around the globe recognize the value and convenience that Harlan provides.”

Harlan Laboratories is dedicated to the humane care and use of research animals. All preconditioning methodologies are reviewed and approved in advance by Harlan Laboratories’ Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Harlan Laboratories’ veterinarians oversee all surgical personnel and provide technical supervision. Surgical procedures are performed using aseptic techniques in surgical facilities that are dedicated to maximum bio-security model production barriers or flexible film isolators.
