Hamilton Company Announces First Shipments of New MICROLAB(R) 600 Semiautomated Diluter/Dispenser

Reno, Nevada (November 8, 2010) - Hamilton Company, world leader in fluid measurement, announced today that the next-generation MICROLAB 600, previewed at Pittcon earlier this year, is now shipping. The instrument is designed to streamline sample preparation, while increasing precision and throughput as well as reducing wasted buffer. The instrument's positive displacement dispensing technology delivers better than 99 percent accuracy, regardless of viscosity, vapor pressure or temperature.

Based on Hamilton's leading syringe technology, the new MICROLAB 600 instrument has been designed for ease of use and offers flexibility for more routines and smaller sample volumes. The new instrument features an internet-enabled controller with an icon-based graphical touch screen for increased ease of use. The redesigned MICROLAB 600 syringe pump provides greater positional accuracy, allowing the programming of smaller sample volumes. Hamilton's patented Bubble Free Prime syringes eliminate trapped air bubbles to speed priming and solvent changes. A new universal valve enables users to quickly switch from one task to another with minimal downtime.

For forensic blood alcohol and urine testing, the MICROLAB 600 comes with a calibration certificate that is traceable to NIST standards. Dilution of environmental samples with the MICROLAB 600 facilitates compliance and traceability of results with EPA methods. The instrument's chemically inert fluid path is ideal for harsh acid digestion in precious metals, while a specialized hand probe minimizes sample retention that can be a problem with viscous samples such as oil. In the measurement of alcohol concentration in beer and wine production, the new instrument provides reliability and traceability in the dilution and spiking of samples with an internal standard prior to GC analysis.

"We are continually enhancing our technology to meet the evolving needs of our customers," said Jason March, director of marketing for Hamilton. "The new features of the MICROLAB 600 will appeal to a broader range of labs, including those with smaller sample quantities and multiple applications."
