Scientists at both Washington University and Saint Louis University are researching the enticing possibility of gaining the benefits of exercise by taking a pill — and skipping the sweat. Thomas Burris, who is now chairman of the department of pharmacological and physiological science at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, co-authored a study that found mice injected with a protein called REV-ERB lost weight and improved their cholesterol profiles even on a high-fat diet, the New York Times reports. The study was conducted at the Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, Fla.
