Eurofins Medinet Launches Virology Diagnostics Services with the Appointment of Yuory V. Karetnyi, M.D., Ph.D, as Program Director, Virology at Eurofins Medinet Washington DC

Eurofins Medinet is please to announce the appointment of Yuory V. Karetnyi, M.D., Ph.D. as Program Director, Virology, on September 21, 2009. Dr. Karetnyi will be responsible for developing, maintaining and performing laboratory assays for the detection and molecular characterization of microorganisms (including bacterial and viral pathogens) in clinical specimens with a heavier focus on viral diagnostics. Dr. Karetnyi will work closely with Eurofins Medinet’s Chief Scientific Officer for Global Infectious Disease Services, Daniel F. Sahm, Ph.D., to advance Eurofins Medinet’s leadership in laboratory and consultative services that support the biopharmaceutical industry’s development of products for preventing, diagnosing, controlling, and treating infectious diseases caused by viruses. Dr. Karetnyi will report directly to Dr. Douglas Toal, Operations Director, Microbiology.

Dr. Karetnyi is a renowned virologist, with nearly 30 years experience in extensive cell culture, R&D, product development and testing experience in biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals gained in both industry and academia.

Prior to joining Eurofins Medinet, Yuory was Director of Microbiology and In Life Virology at WuXi AppTec Laboratory Services in St. Paul Minnesota where he established a cGMP cell culture/virology laboratory. Dr. Karetnyi also held positions as a Senior Development Scientist at Beckman Coulter; Research Scientist at the Cancer Center at the University of Iowa College of Medicine; NIH Training Grant Fellow and Houts- Arthritis Foundation Fellow at the Parvovirus Laboratory, Division of Rheumatology, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Dr. Karetnyi earned a Ph.D. in Virology, from the L.A. Tarasevitch State Research Institute of Standardization & Control of Medical Biological Preparations, Ministry of Health of Russia, Moscow, as well as an M.D. from the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy.
