Empire Genomics Unveils Signature Fellowship Training Program

Builds Employment Bridge for Students Seeking Careers in Life Sciences

Buffalo, NY April 10, 2015 – Empire Genomics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, announces the launching of its’ Imperial Scholars Fellowship Training Program, a multi-year, multi-disciplinary fellowship. The program is designed to train exceptional minority, disadvantaged and local students who are driven to gain experience in the personalized medicine field.

"This is an exciting time to be in the Life Sciences industry," said Anthony Johnson, President and CEO of Empire Genomics. “Our Fellows will be mentored by company executives as they work on a variety of projects and gain much needed experience and confidence, as well as begin developing their professional resume."

The promise of personalized medicine will only be realized with smart, passionate, and experienced people to help shape the industry’s development. Empire Genomics, through its’ Fellowship Program, seeks to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry application.

While the company has always offered internships, it realized that the training period of one summer only scratches the surface of what students can learn and that a multi-year program is a better approach. The program is open to high school juniors through first year graduate and professional students with the goal of developing Fellows into strong candidates for entry- to mid-level positions in the discipline of personalized medicine. Fellows will work in many different areas of the business which includes the laboratory, business development, legal/regulatory, and marketing. This program is not designed to be a rotational one in the traditional sense, but rather one in which Fellows experience the many aspects of running a high-tech business from a holistic perspective.

“One of the key challenges faced by both our business and the industry as a whole, is the lack of experienced human capital to fill positions,” stated Norma J. Nowak, Chief Scientific Officer and Founder. “It is our plan that this investment will lead to experienced candidates for open positions in our firm to support the growth of our company, and strengthen the community-at-large.”

While not partnered with any formal educational institution, the program will look to tie in education credits and certifications in the future. The inaugural program will be open to three Fellows in year one and expected start date is May 2015. Applications are being accepted online at www. EmpireGenomics.com.
