WHAT:
EMD Serono, Inc. is proud to announce that its Vice President and General Counsel, Thomas Gunning, was chosen as one of PharmaVOICE Magazine’s 100 most inspiring leaders of 2009 – a group of individuals who are lauded as setting the standard for corporate leadership, research and development, technology enhancement, creativity, marketing and strategy.
Helming a 19-person legal department for the biopharmaceutical leader, Mr. Gunning brings more than 20 years of experience in commercial, transactional and dispute resolution work to EMD Serono, as well as extensive biopharmaceutical experience, including compliance and risk management in a highly regulated environment. He acts as a key counselor to other members of the company’s senior management team, and helps to shape company strategy.
Mr. Gunning actively represents EMD Serono on the general counsel committees of industry groups PhRMA and BIO, as well as with the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council and in Washington, DC. He also dedicates his professional expertise, and the time of his legal team at EMD Serono, by giving back to the community, spearheading pro bono work that helps disadvantaged families through the Greater Boston Legal Service’s Children’s Disability Project.
Prior to joining EMD Serono, Mr. Gunning was a Partner for the national law firm Nixon Peabody LLP in Boston. He received his bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University and a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law.
This is the third appearance for a member of EMD Serono’s senior management team on the PharmaVOICE 100 list. In 2008 and in 2006, President and CEO Fereydoun Firouz was named to the list for his unparalleled work as a community and industry leader. REMARKS:
