Colorado Economic Development Commission (EDC) members voted Monday to approve nearly $120,000 in incentives for DaVita Inc. to build a research facility in Lakewood for which it plans to hire 58 employees.
The vote follows the dialysis center operator’s confirmation last week that it has chosen the St. Anthony Hospital campus as the location for its second U.S. research center.
The center, which will go in one of two medical office plazas under construction on the campus, is expected to employ high-paying executives and medical professionals.
Lakewood city officials already have approved a sales- and use-tax rebate on construction materials that the Denver-based Fortune 500 company said is equal to roughly 75 percent of the costs of such materials.
The EDC vote grants to DaVita job-creation incentives that were enacted by the state in 2009. Those tax credits are equal to half the amount the company owes in federal Social Security and Medicare taxes on each job it creates that pays at least 110 percent of the average county wage.
For DaVita, that comes out to $119,209 in tax credits over a five-year period, EDC officials stated.
The research center is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2012.
DaVita also plans to open a call center in the Denver metro area, though it has not announced that location yet.
