Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Selects MedAptus For Electronic Charge Capture

BOSTON, March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- MedAptus(R) today announced that Dana- Farber Cancer Institute is the latest comprehensive care center to contract for the company’s practice-proven Electronic Charge Capture solution. Integrated with existing scheduling, billing and electronic medical records systems, MedAptus’ Charge Capture offering supports professional coding and compliance at the point of care.

Located in Boston, Dana-Farber is a principal teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School and is among the leading cancer research and care centers in the United States. It is a founding member of Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center that is composed of five Harvard-affiliated hospitals, Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health.

Dana-Farber sought charge capture technology as a solution to a labor- intensive coding and billing process that was high-cost operationally, as well as in terms of the potential for revenue loss. A committee of Dana-Farber executives and subject matter experts ultimately identified MedAptus’ technology as best-suited for its physician base after conducting an extensive six-month review of available systems.

“Medical coding and billing is a highly complex process that can often lead to revenue leakage even at the most prestigious intuitions,” said Karen Bird, vice president of finance at Dana-Farber. “As physician reimbursement continues to shrink, it is crucial for hospitals to assess their workflows and processes in order to maximize payment.”

The initial physicians will be live on the system by early summer; all remaining physicians are scheduled to be live by the early fall.

“As a Boston-based company, it is an honor for MedAptus to be working with an organization as respected as Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is for its contributions to cancer research, treatment and patients locally, as well as globally,” said Dennis Mitchell, president and CEO of MedAptus. “Given our Charge Capture is currently live in two other National Cancer Institute- designated cancer centers, we certainly feel as if we are meeting an identified need. We are delighted to play even a minor role in enabling the critical work of Dana-Farber and groups like it.”
