WOBURN, Mass., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Covaris announced today that Bill McGrath has joined the company in the newly created position of Vice President of Engineering. Mr. McGrath has over 20 years of experience in the design and development of scientific and medical instruments.

Mr. McGrath was previously with Affymetrix, Inc. leading their instrument development group. He managed the development of their complete instrumentation product line including the only FDA recognized micro array processing system. This product line has enabled Affymetrix to be the technology leader in Gene Expression, Genotyping and Diagnostics micro array markets. Prior to Affymetrix, Bill managed the development of Class II and III medical products for a number of Medical Instrumentation companies including Tyco Medical Systems, Nellcor Puritan Bennett, Bayer Diagnostics, and General Electric Medical Systems.
