Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) announced today the launch of Corning® PureCoat™ rLaminin-521 cultureware, a family of animal-free, pre-coated, ready-to-use vessels for reliable and innovative stem cell research.
This new line of cultureware addresses many of the challenges experienced by pluripotent (PSC) and neural stem cell (NSC) scientists as they scale up under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
Corning PureCoat rLaminin-521 cultureware products are U.S. Class 1 medical devices manufactured in an ISO 13485-certified and FDA-registered facility under cGMP conditions. This provides the level of quality, consistency, and traceability scientists need as they scale their processes for clinical applications. The precoated vessels help reduce labor and validation costs across the manufacturing workflow. In addition, the range of sizes allows users to rapidly transition from small-scale stem cell culture to large-scale production.

Corning recently worked with BioLamina for the supply of recombinant human laminin 521 (rLaminin-521), a next-generation surface that enables feeder-free, single-cell passaging of pluripotent stem cells. Now, Corning has gone one step further by combining BioLamina’s expertise in rLaminin-521 expression with Corning’s proprietary surface coating technology that stabilizes the protein for long-term stability and functionality. This collaboration brings a robust and scalable expansion solution to the emerging stem cell processing market.
The Corning PureCoat rLaminin-521 surface enables efficient single-cell passaging of pluripotent stem cells without apoptosis inhibitors, such as ROCK-inhibitors. PureCoat rLaminin-521 cultureware promotes long-term propagation of human pluripotent cells in chemically defined, xeno-free and feeder-free systems, supporting a high expansion rate, homogenous monolayer growth, and maintenance of pluripotency. The surface has additional utility in neurobiology research with neural stem cell expansion and differentiation.
