SALT LAKE CITY, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Clinical Innovations has launched its new disposable circumcision device, the AccuCirc, to help clinicians provide precise, consistent and reliable circumcision outcomes. Touted as the only significant innovation in circumcision of the past 50 years, the AccuCirc utilizes revolutionary technology to protect the glans, ensure adequate hemostasis, and deliver the precise cut of the foreskin in a single actuation.
The AccuCirc uses two innovative components to complete the circumcision procedure: the Foreskin Probe/Shielding Ring and the Single-Action Clamp. The Foreskin Probe/Shielding Ring ensures that the glans is protected and the foreskin is properly aligned, while the Single-Action Clamp ensures adequate hemostasis and the precise delivery of the protected, circular blade.
"These two components work together to protect the infant from injury," said Dr. David Tomlinson, a Family Medicine Practitioner in Rhode Island and primary inventor. "Not only do they simplify the circumcision procedure, but they also eliminate the need for a dorsal slit and remove the potential for mismatching parts. They also do away with the use of freehand scalpels, scissors, reusable clamps and safety pins in the procedure."
The FDA issued a warning in 2000 for potential injury from the use of mismatched sizes and parts of traditional circumcision clamps, stating its concern over serious device-related complications. "We designed the AccuCirc to eliminate complications that typically come from mismatched parts or freehand cutting," said Wm. Dean Wallace, MD, PhD, and Executive Vice-President of Research and Development. "The Shielding Ring shields the glans from ever touching the blade and the Foreskin Probe acts as a key that activates the crushing arms and blade only when the correct size is placed within the device."
The AccuCirc comes in a self-contained circumcision kit; including the foreskin probe/shielding ring, single-action clamp and blade, fenestrated drape with adhesive backing, surgical marking pen, hemostats, sanitizing wipe, iodine swab sticks, lubricating jelly, petrolatum dressing, and gauze. The kit is completely disposable and no part of the device is retained on the infant.
The AccuCirc is sold through independent distributors around the United States. Visit www.accucirc.com for more information, or contact us directly at:
