ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 9 — Carestream Health executive Jeff Fleming, Vice President, Healthcare IT Americas, will be a panelist in a session entitled “Medical Imaging? There’s an App for That!” at the 2013 Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) conference and exhibit. The session will be held Thursday, June 6, from 2:45 pm–3:45 pm at the Longhorn Exhibit Hall Innovation Theater at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine (Dallas), Texas. The moderator is nationally recognized researcher and speaker Dr. David S. Hirschorn, Director of Radiology Informatics at Staten Island University Hospital.
This session will describe new mobile applications on the market for medical imaging, along with their uses and limitations. A panel of vendors will discuss the merits of the different approaches to mobile apps—such as native OS versus HTML 5—and how much functionality they can pack into these devices. Supplier representatives will also answer questions from attendees.
“We are seeing dramatic growth in the functionality and use of mobile devices for medical imaging applications both by physicians and patients,” Fleming reports. “Clinicians can use mobile viewers to securely access images and reports from their home, office or any hospital they serve. In addition, patient portals now allow patients to electronically access and share data with physicians and specialists, which enables them to play a greater role in managing their own care.”
Support for mobile applications is featured on Carestream’s Vue PACS and CARESTREAM Vue for Vendor-Neutral Archive through its Vue Motion zero-footprint, Web-based enterprise viewer for clinicians and CARESTREAM MyVue patient portal.
Vue Motion provides on-demand access to imaging data and patient information by clinicians anytime, anywhere. The patient portal allows patients to quickly and easily access their imaging studies and radiology reports electronically and share this information with physicians. The Vue Motion image viewer and MyVue patient portal are cleared by the FDA for use with a variety of Web-enabled devices including mobile devices such as Apple iPads.
Carestream also will participate in an Applied Learning vendor panel entitled, “Current Solutions to the Image-Enabled HIE,” on Thursday, June 6, from 3:45 pm–5:15 pm at Texas Ballroom B. This session is chaired by Steven G. Langer, Ph.D., Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., and Dr. Alexander J. Towbin, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Session topics include: how suppliers are promoting electronic transfer of images and reports between hospitals; learning how solutions can share results with patients; and enabling the local EMR with images/reports from other members of the HIE when those data use a different patient ID.
