WAYNE, N.J., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc., a leader in diagnostic imaging, unveiled plans to launch VistaTrak(TM), an innovative contrast media management system that provides radiology departments with a new and powerful management tool to help enhance patient care and safety, optimize inventory management and improve billing accuracy.
VistaTrak is a collaboration between Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and Mobile Aspects, an industry leader in providing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-enabled solutions for healthcare and hospital environments. The companies worked together to optimize Mobile Aspects’ proprietary iRIS(TM) platform for the unique needs and requirements of the radiology environment. Bayer is the first company to offer a contrast media management system based on an RFID platform to automate manual processes and capture valuable operational data that currently cannot be found in any one system.
The VistaTrak contrast media management system was previewed at the 2007 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 93rd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting last November, where it was well-received. The system combines RFID technology of “tagged” bottles of contrast agent with a “smart” cabinet and a specially designed interface to capture, store and manage product utilization data easily and reliably while helping to reduce the risk of human error. It helps radiology departments and administrators by providing radiology-specific solutions for the use of contrast media, such as:
VistaTrak features an easy-to-use, touch-screen interface and is available in two different sizes to address varying usage needs.
“Our new, cutting-edge VistaTrak system addresses some of the most pressing concerns confronting radiology departments today, such as patient safety and the increasing requirements by accrediting organizations on the storage, handling and use of contrast media,” said Douglas Stefanelli, Vice President and General Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals. “This is the first time RFID technology is being employed in this unique way in the radiology suite, and is an example of how Bayer HealthCare continues to innovate in radiology and helps improve patient care.”
“Collaborating with Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals to help address challenges in the radiology setting has provided us with another opportunity to showcase the versatility and benefits of our advanced and patented RFID- based systems in a hospital and healthcare environment,” said Suneil Mandava, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mobile Aspects. “Mobile Aspects is looking forward to working with Bayer in supporting VistaTrak and its ability to help radiology departments more effectively manage risk and potentially improve the business processes in all departments that touch contrast media.”
