WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- URAC (http://www.urac.org/), a leader in promoting health care quality through accreditation and certification programs, announced today that it has appointed Kathryn Creech, president and CEO of Miavita, a provider of online programs that help individuals achieve better health, as a member-at-large to its Board of Directors.

The organization’s Rules Governance Nomination Committee solicited nominations for the seat, designated for a health IT expert, from companies that have received URAC Health Website accreditation. Creech was selected based on her dynamic business background and knowledge of URAC accreditation programs. Miavita (http://www.miavita.com/), which serves employers and health services companies through a business-to-business model, identified the need for URAC accreditation as a condition for securing major health care clients.

“Kathryn Creech is a proven business leader who understands how to harness technology and the Internet to successfully deliver quality health products,” said Garry Carneal, JD, MA, URAC President and CEO. “We could not ask for a more qualified person to fill this important seat on our board.”

URAC currently offers three health IT-related accreditation programs -- Health Web Site, HIPAA Security and HIPAA Privacy.

“Going through the process made me a true believer in URAC’s approach to accreditation,” said Creech. “Especially for health care Web sites, accreditation is tangible verification of the quality of your product. The URAC process was hugely valuable in Miavita’s effort to achieve the highest quality online programming and credibility in the marketplace.”
