The Institution Of Chemical Engineers (Icheme) Has Teamed Up With The Indian Institute Of Chemical Engineers (Iiche) To Give Students The Chance To Participate In A Free Exchange Programme

The scheme will be jointly funded by IChemE and the IIChE and will see four IChemE student members spend a week in India during September and four Indian students travel to the UK for a week in November.

The placements will include industry site visits, attending a national chemical engineering conference or event and cultural excursions.

IChemE director of international development, Neil Atkinson says that the exchange programme will support the students professionally: “Today’s young chemical engineers need to understand the global nature of the process industries. Employers will want their new recruits to appreciate the challenges of working for diverse, multi-site companies and the eight students on this exchange programme will get a direct chance to experience this.”

The scheme is open to student members of IChemE and IIChE in their final year of chemical engineering studies or undertaking a postgraduate study. Candidates should visit www.icheme.org/studentexchange2010 to download an application form. The closing date for applications is 31 July 2010.

Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, maths and economics to the process of turning raw materials into everyday products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the products where chemical engineering plays a central role.

3. About IChemE
