Texas Health Resources Announces Executive Leadership Additions At Two Hospitals

ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Health Resources (THR), the largest health care system in North Texas, announced today that two of its largest hospitals -- Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital and Arlington Memorial Hospital -- have named veteran health care administrators to newly-created chief operating officer (COO) positions.

Terrence (Terry) Akin will join Harris Methodist Fort Worth as senior vice president and COO. Sandra Harris, currently senior vice president at Arlington Memorial, will become COO of the Arlington hospital. Akin and Harris will oversee day-to-day operations at their respective facilities.

Terry Akin comes to Harris Methodist Fort Worth from Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, another hospital in the THR system, where he served as vice president of operations since 2001. Akin will have direct responsibility for nursing, ancillary services and support services. He has more than 15 years experience in hospital management beginning with San Marcos Treatment Center in San Marcos, Texas. He later completed an administrative residency and served in other leadership positions at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., followed by a role as service line vice president at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Akin will assume his role at Harris Methodist Fort Worth in early September and will report to Barclay Berdan, president of the hospital and executive vice president of THR.

Sandra Harris has been an integral part of the Arlington Memorial leadership team for more than 31 years, most recently as senior vice president, a position she has held since 1998. She began her career at Arlington Memorial in 1973 as a registered nurse and became vice president in 1990. She will have direct responsibility for nursing, allied health, business development and hospital operations. Harris will report to Oscar Amparan, president of the hospital and executive vice president of THR.
