Sprint, palmOne Provide Wireless Solution For Riverside Health

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. and MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sprint and palmOne, Inc. today announced that Riverside Health System’s three non-profit, community hospitals in Virginia are using Sprint PCS Vision(SM) Smart Device Treo(TM) 600s by palmOne on the Sprint PCS Vision(SM) network with the MData(R) Enterprise System from MercuryMD, Inc.

Physicians using these devices can take advantage of the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network to quickly and easily access patient data from virtually anywhere inside and outside of the hospital, making them more efficient and better able to provide the highest quality of care.(1) With MData’s enhanced SyncEverywhere(TM) technology, physicians can securely access clinical patient data on hospital information systems from anywhere while on the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network.

Physicians spend a large amount of time searching for critical patient information, such as lab results, admission history, diagnostic reports and medication lists. By using the Treo 600 smartphone equipped with MData, this information can now be accessed from anywhere on the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network. Approximately 500 Riverside physicians can use MData to obtain mobile access to important patient information, helping optimize patient care.

“The Treo 600, along with Sprint’s high-speed data network and MercuryMD’s MData, has enabled physicians to access patient information more quickly and conveniently,” said John Stanley, senior vice president and chief information officer at Riverside Health System. “With the success of this system, our physicians now have more time to devote to patient care.”

The MData Enterprise System also has made a positive difference in the ability for Riverside to attract physicians and maintain its reputation as a high-tech, high-quality health provider. Currently, Riverside is the dominant provider of healthcare in all three of its markets.

“Sprint recognizes that mobile technologies are becoming increasingly important for enabling healthcare providers to deliver higher-quality patient care in a more timely and efficient manner,” said Mike Werth, director of healthcare marketing for emerging and mid-markets, Sprint. “The wireless solution deployed at Riverside represents a continuing joint effort by Sprint, palmOne and MercuryMD to provide best-in-class mobile solutions to the healthcare industry.”

Sprint is dedicated to providing integrated communication solutions that help healthcare providers balance patient care, manage costs and comply with mandated regulations. Sprint has been offering voice and data services for more than 30 years and has a full data services portfolio, including business continuity, transport (IP, FR, ATM, wireless) and managed network services.
