About NAFAC
The National Association for Ambulatory and Urgent Care is a national not- for-profit association of urgent care providers joined together for the mutual benefit of education, networking and representing its concerns and needs to insurers and state and federal governments. The North American Association for Ambulatory Urgent Care is a member organization dedicated to the development and promotion of Urgent Care in the United States and North America. The organization produces information and provides support such as benchmarks, outcomes, business development and education, to all organizations involved in the practice of Urgent Care Medicine. Dr. George has been a member of the NAFAC board of directors since 1989.
Urgent Care medicine is one of the fastest growing sectors of medical care in the United States. In fact, there are more Urgent Care Center (UCC) practices opening than Managed Care Plans. In the U.S. and Canada, there are about 12,000 Urgent Care centers, and over 3,000 centers are represented in NAFAC. In 2003 Urgent Care centers across the U.S. saw 150 million visits. The demand is driven by the eighty five percent of the population who are healthy. They are medical consumers who want treatment quickly, conveniently and affordably.
The goal of all Urgent Care Centers is to provide universal, convenient and affordable access to disease, illness and injury care. UCC practitioners specialize in treating disease, illness, or injury when presented on an episodic basis. The disease, illness or injury is usually acute, and with treatment, is fully corrected in seven to fourteen days. UCC services are provided seven days each week, on average 13 hours each day, and an appointment is not required.
The Royal Oak Medical Center is located at 5130 Coolidge Hwy. The phone number is 248-288-9500.
