Boston Business Journal -- Sandwiches sold by 18 Roche Brothers and Sudbury Farms stores in Eastern Massachusetts have been recalled, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.Several types of “roller sandwiches” manufactured by Wilmington, Mass. company DBC Inc. (doing business as World Class Canapés, Inc.) may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The sandwiches may have been offered in the prepared food section or contained in party platters. None of this product was sold out of state.
The affected sandwiches were made on July 30, 2008 under the following names: “Progressive Gourmet Buffalo Chicken Roller Sandwich”, “Progressive Gourmet Chicken Caesar Roller Sandwich”, or, “Progressive Gourmet Honey Turkey with Baby Spinach Roller Sandwich”. Consumers may have purchased the ready to eat products at retail establishments between July 31, 2008 and August 2, 2008.
Consumers are being asked to check their refrigerators and freezers and throw away the contaminated sandwiches.
The sandwiches have likely expired and are no longer being sold in retail stores. The sandwiches could have been repackaged by retail stores, or provided as part of a catering service and may not be labeled.
Listeriosis does not cause illness in most healthy people.
However, it can be life-threatening for some individuals, including those with weakened immune systems, the elderly and newborns. It can also cause miscarriages in pregnant women.
