SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fifth year in a row, Providence Hospital is ranked as one the top 100 hospitals in the United States for heart care, according to an independent national study.
Providence is recognized by the Solucient 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals(R): Benchmarks for Success study, which identifies those hospitals that have achieved excellence in care, efficiency of operations and sustainability of cardiovascular performance. The study focused on hospitals that treat high volumes of heart attack patients and perform large numbers of specific heart-related procedures such as bypass grafts and angioplasties. Providence was one of only 30 teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residency programs listed.
“This honor is recognition of our dedicated and hard working doctors, nurses, staff members and volunteers who have helped to make Providence one of the leading heart hospitals in southeast Michigan and the country,” says Rob Casalou, president of Providence Hospital.”
Now in its seventh year, the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals(R): Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success study identifies hospitals that are setting benchmark levels of performance for cardiovascular services throughout the nation. This study is part of the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals(R) initiative, originally developed in 1993.
The study found that top-performing facilities consistently outperform their peers, especially in terms of mortality and complication rates. The study represents more than 6,000 U.S. hospitals and more than 12 million patient discharges. According to the study, if all hospitals in the study achieved the success levels of the Solucient top hospitals, 10,000 additional cardiovascular patients could survive each year; and an additional 1,100 patients could be complication-free.
Solucient is an Evanston, Ill. based company that provides strategic information to the healthcare industry. More information about the results of this study is available at www.100tophospitals.com.
