Pokémon GO Is Actually A Health Hazard, Study Finds

People have been staring at their phones and walking into things for a number of years now, but there’s a new kind of phone hazard in town: Pokémon GO. And the behavior associated with it looks different from regular walking-and-phoning—it’s slower, its focus more intense, and the whole thing is punctuated with bursts of excitement as people “catch” various Pokémon. It’s also somewhat dangerous—most people have probably heard of or even witnessed incidents or accidents resulting from the game. But now there’s some data to lay out this risk. A new study in JAMA Internal Medicine finds that the game was apparently responsible for over 100,000 incidents in a 10-day period last summer.
