MADISON & APPLETON, Wis., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors has named Allan Zimmerman, RPh, the President and CEO of Navitus(TM) Health Solutions, a health management company specializing in pharmacy benefits administration. Navitus Health Solutions is a joint venture of Madison and Northeast Wisconsin healthcare providers including Dean Health System, SSM of Wisconsin, ThedaCare(TM), Bellin Health and nearly 200 Northeast Wisconsin independent physicians. Zimmerman will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and leadership of Navitus.
“Navitus’ focus on lowest net drug spend, financial transparency and innovative clinical programs to improve pharmacy care, is beginning to reshape how employers think about managing pharmacy benefits,” said Zimmerman. “Unlike other business models, it instills confidence in our members that we are working to make certain they receive the best pharmacy care at the lowest cost.”
Zimmerman brings with him over 25 years of leadership, pharmacy management and managed care experience. He most recently served as Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager for National Prescription Administrators in East Hanover, New Jersey. Prior to that, he served as President of Prudential Pharmacy Management for the Prudential Insurance Company of America. Zimmerman is also a Registered Pharmacist and was elected as President and Member of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.
In addition to operational leadership, Zimmerman will be responsible for developing and articulating the strategic direction for the organization, positioning the organization for continued growth, and expanding products and services.
Last July, just months after its founding in 2003, Navitus was selected by the Group Insurance Board to manage the pharmacy benefits for more than 200,000 State of Wisconsin and local government employees, retirees and their dependents through the Employee Trust Fund. At that time, Eric Stanchfield, Secretary of the Department of Employee Trust Funds, said, “Navitus will give us the best opportunity to maximize pharmacy savings in a way that is transparent, and assures that formulary and quality improvement decisions are made by Wisconsin doctors committed to providing the right pharmacy care for our subscribers.”
Zimmerman says he is focused on maintaining Navitus’ reputation for working in the best interest of its customers and their members. “The job of any good pharmacy benefit company is to make sure its customers get the best pharmacy care at the lowest cost. What makes Navitus different is that we don’t have any secret discounts, rebates or other devices that the customer never sees. By maintaining transparency, and focusing on reducing the net costs of our customers, we offer a clear and refreshing choice for pharmacy benefits management,” said Zimmerman.
Navitus Health Solutions employs 60 people at offices in Madison, WI and Appleton WI. It provides pharmacy benefits management services, including benefit design and consulting, formulary management and clinical programs for more than 600,000 members. Annual revenue is in excess of $10 million.
