COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Minimally Invasive Devices, Inc. today announced preliminary results of a new clinical study evaluating the effectiveness of FloShield® Air versus a common method of heating and defogging a laparoscope.
In the prospective, multicenter, randomized study, FloShield Air’s performance exceeded that of the control group, showing a statistically significant reduction in laparoscope removals (the study’s primary endpoint). The study contained a test group (FloShield) and control group, and was conducted across multiple types of laparoscopic procedures. Primary and secondary endpoints included comparing the number of times the laparoscope is removed for defogging/cleaning, the amount of time the laparoscope is outside the body, surgical procedure time, and time between scope removals.
A laparoscope is a small tube with a light and high-definition camera at the tip. The instrument is inserted through an incision in the abdomen and relays an image to a video monitor. When the surgical view has been significantly diminished due to condensation or debris on the camera lens, surgeons must remove the laparoscope from the abdomen for cleaning.
