Howard University Selects Perot Systems For Information Technology And Revenue Cycle Outsourcing Services

PLANO, Texas, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Perot Systems Corporation today announced a ten-year agreement with Howard University to provide information technology (IT) and revenue cycle outsourcing (RCO) services to the University's Faculty Practice Plan physicians.

As part of this relationship, Perot Systems will fund, implement, and operate the full suite of Allscripts' TouchWorks(TM) electronic medical record (EMR) for the Plan's physicians and residents. In addition, the company will provide the supporting technologies and business services to establish a national model for revenue cycle management, patient care, compliance and quality.

The collaborative outsourcing arrangement provides a model that allows the University to accelerate comprehensive adoption of the electronic health record and gives the Faculty Practice Plan the ability to address the three main barriers to achieving clinical transformation: funding, implementation and benefits realization.

"The combination of Perot Systems' technology and revenue cycle solutions will allow the University's physician practice to take a leading position in the adoption of clinical technology," said Chuck Lyles, president of Perot Systems healthcare group. "We look forward to offering the University the full complement of our healthcare expertise, and to working with the physicians to establish a national model for healthcare delivery in an electronic environment. Moreover, we feel privileged and are honored to welcome the Faculty Practice Plan to the Perot Systems' family of customers."

According to Dr. Victor F. Scott, interim senior vice president for health sciences at Howard University, the agreement with Perot Systems is part of a long-term strategic effort to advance the University's service to patients and the training of new physicians. "We are a step closer to aligning the clinical and administrative operations of the physician practice to keep pace with the rapidly evolving needs of the community and our physicians. We can now focus on our vision of expanding the University's role as a leading quality care provider in the community, and becoming the premier academic medical center for the 21st century."

Howard University is one of the nation's oldest teaching institutions and has been recognized as one of the best hospitals in the nation in heart, rheumatology and hormonal disorders by U.S. News & World Report. Today, more than 200 physicians are affiliated with the University's faculty practice.
