COPPELL, Texas, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Forbes magazine has recognized global health and wellness provider Mannatech, Incorporated, as one of the top 10 best small companies in America.
In its debut on the Forbes Best 200 Small Companies list, Mannatech was ranked by the magazine as the nation’s fifth overall best small company. The list in the October 30, 2006, edition of Forbes said the companies chosen for the list represent "...Small, but growing, businesses designed to survive the ups and downs of market volatility.”
Among other criteria, Forbes defined a “small business” as a company that has performed well recently and over the past several years, with revenues between $5 million and $750 million and net profit margins greater than 5 percent with positive sales and profit growth, on average, over both the last five years and last 12 months. In another article, Forbes recently recognized Mannatech as one of five companies with strong balance sheets. Mannatech has $78 million in cash reserves.
“We are extremely pleased the company has been recognized for its performance,” said Sam Caster, Mannatech’s founder, CEO and chairman of the board. “We believe our success is a testament to the dedication and quality of our employees, the company’s focus on a core line of proprietary products, research and development of new technologies and the passion our independent Associates have for helping others improve their health.
“We believe our success also is directly attributable to strengthening our management team, which we believe is preparing Mannatech for improved growth moving forward,” he added. Since 2005, Mannatech has hired six new executives, including a president of international operations, an executive vice president of global operations, a senior vice president and general counsel, a senior vice president and chief science officer, a vice president of treasury and investor relations and a vice president of global human resources.
The company’s management has been particularly focused on introducing new, proprietary products in the 10 international markets in which it currently operates.
This year alone, Mannatech has announced the introduction of two revolutionary products. In May the company launched its Optimal Skin Care System in Japan, the world’s largest skin care market. For Japan, all seven products in the Optimal system are proprietary formulations that are preservative free. The company has also launched the Optimal system in Korea and will begin selling Optimal system products in three other markets soon. During the fourth quarter of 2006, Mannatech will introduce PhytoMatrix, the nutrition industry’s first supplement containing a unique blend of standardized plant-based minerals, natural vitamin complexes and phytochemicals. The company initially will begin selling PhytoMatrix in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
The Forbes ranking follows on the heels of other recognitions. During 2006, the company received honors from: The Dallas Morning News, which ranked the company 73rd among the top 200 publicly traded companies in the Dallas- Fort Worth area; from the Dallas Business Journal, which ranked Mannatech as the 29th fastest-growing public company in the D/FW area; from the nationally distributed Nutrition Business Journal, which awarded Mannatech its bronze medal for exceptional growth; and the U. S. Department of Commerce, which recognized the company for its successful entry into the international marketplace. The June 6, 2005, edition of BusinessWeek ranked Mannatech sixth among the country’s Top 100 Best Small Businesses.
Founded in 1993, Mannatech is a leading wellness company and a pioneer in the field of proprietary glyconutritional supplements and wellness products. The company announced a ground-breaking formulation in 1996 of a nutritional supplement comprised of a unique blend of plant-based sugars, which are also known as glyconutrients (‘glyco’ is the Greek word for ‘sweet’).
Medical research acknowledges that certain sugars are needed at the cellular level for optimum cellular function. Considering that most of these sugars are often lacking in modern diets, Mannatech sought new and better sources of the nutrients. The effort culminated in 1996 with the Ambrotose complex.
Ten years of research, including in vitro studies, animal studies, human case reports and small human clinical studies suggest that Ambrotose provides a wide range of support for immune system functions. More than 20 patents worldwide - including one from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office - have been issued to Mannatech for technology related to the Ambrotose formulation.
Today Mannatech has more than two dozen glyconutritional products for adults and children that address health and nutrition, sports performance, weight management and skin care.
