ROYAL OAK, Mich., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Crittenton Hospital Medical Center, a Rochester/Rochester Hills, Michigan comprehensive health care system has successfully concluded labor negotiations with OPEIU Local 40, AFL-CIO, CLC, representing the Medical Center’s Registered Nurses. In the extended bargaining process, the Medical Center and the Union cooperated in a balanced approach to bargaining. Each party was committed to the continuation and enhancement of quality patient care and the preservation of a core competitive package of wages and benefits for Registered Nurses.

With the assistance of Federal and State mediators and participating Medical Center physicians, the parties steadily worked to resolve over 55 separate bargaining issues. The bargaining was conducted and concluded without interruption in the delivery of quality health care at the facility. A jointly recommended tentative agreement was reached on Tuesday, January 4, 2005. The agreement will be effective through 2007.

The new agreement contains compounded wage improvements of more that 17% over the life of the contract, increases in shift, weekend, and on-call premiums as well as additional compensation for voluntary overtime and controlled increases in employee-paid health care premiums. The financial terms of the agreement will maintain a market based and highly competitive package of wages and benefits for Nurses.

The agreement also includes an innovative year-end bonus opportunity for Registered Nurses based upon patient satisfaction scores. Numerous other language items were agreed upon in furtherance of the Medical Center’s and the Union’s mutual goal of providing quality health care, proficiently delivered.

The parties agreed on the importance of patient care standards and have established a Nursing Practice Committee to provide Nurses an interactive involvement in the review of patient care standards and Nursing practice standards.

Ratification details are being concluded by the parties. The Union expects a ratification vote will take place in the latter part of January. Union Leadership has endorsed the agreement and will recommend ratification by the Registered Nurses.
