TROY, Mich., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) services outsourcing provider for hospitals and health systems, announced today that it has completed the first phase of a comprehensive technology upgrade for North Oakland Medical Centers (NOMC) in Pontiac, Mich. The rapid implementation of this technology set, which includes a picture archiving and communications systems (PACS) installation, enables the healthcare system to offer patients and clinicians a broader array of patient services enhancing NOMC’s position as a provider of advanced clinical care.

To provide a solid foundation for the technology advancements at NOMC, CareTech conducted a technology assessment and completed an infrastructure upgrade. New high-speed network technology, including wireless connectivity, was installed throughout the main hospital in Pontiac and its adjoining buildings to support new information systems that required a higher performance level. The centers are now benefiting from increased throughput.
CareTech also assisted North Oakland Medical Centers in selecting an affordable and needs-appropriate PACS solution that would improve radiologist and physician workflow. Following this installation, significant cost reductions and efficiency improvements are expected as film printing is gradually eliminated and images are read from compatible modalities.
To better communicate the center’s services and strengths to the communities it serves, CareTech worked collaboratively with NOMC marketing department resources to develop an enhanced Web site. A current, industry- standard e-mail system and directory structure were also implemented to provide additional functionality for North Oakland Medical Centers staff.
In order to allow physicians to review and sign transcribed documents via the Internet, CareTech managed the replacement of a non-supported voice management system and the upgrade of a DOS-based transcription and documentation management system -- which also interfaced with the health information system and PACS to streamline workflow.
