MALVERN, Pa., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens Medical Solutions announces that Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center of East Patchogue, N.Y., has signed an agreement to implement its full suite of Soarian(R) clinical applications. The agreement includes Soarian Clinical Team, Common Clinicals and Clinical Access, as well as Soarian Cardiology, Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), and Siemens Med Administration Check(TM), which uses bar code technology to alert nurses to potential medication administration errors. Soarian is Siemens new generation healthcare information solution.
Brookhaven President and CEO Tom Ockers stated, “We are proud that our Medical Center is the first in the New York metropolitan area to contract for all of the Soarian clinical applications, placing Brookhaven Memorial Hospital at the forefront of our industry. This state-of-the-art package of applications will expand our IT capability, enable us to evaluate patient outcomes, and enhance our clinicians’ abilities to provide excellent medical care to patients in a safe and efficient manner.”
He added, “I believe that Soarian’s advanced technology will also enhance the work experience for all of the staff who provide care for our patients at Brookhaven. Having all clinical information readily available and easy to read, while being ‘connected’ as a team via the Web, will help us to improve documentation, avoid duplication, and greatly reduce paperwork.”
Brookhaven CIO Donald Fleming agrees that Soarian will help to engage the medical staff at Brookhaven. “For example,” he noted, “Soarian Clinical Access will allow our staff to view a person’s complete lifetime clinical history. Common Clinicals will generate reminders and alerts to potential medication reactions and food allergy reactions. And the CPOE module will provide tools for the physicians to plan and manage the care of patients.”
“Brookhaven joins our growing list of new Soarian customers in 2004, and we’re pleased to have them as our partner in showcasing the benefits of innovative healthcare IT solutions in the New York metro area,” said Thomas Miller, president, IT division, Siemens Medical Solutions.
Soarian integrates clinical, financial, diagnostic and administrative processes to support patient-centered care. The solution is distinguished by three innovative characteristics: it is workflow-engineered to synchronize processes across the health enterprise; its smart user interface is designed to accommodate tasks based on the roles of individual users; and it has embedded analytics that empower users to proactively monitor and measure an enterprise’s performance, and then act on those conclusions. Additionally, bringing together images and data seamlessly from a variety of medical modalities in one location, Soarian helps facilitate more informed decision- making - leading to improved care delivery, increased staff satisfaction, and more efficient business practices.
