PR Log (Press Release) – Jan 11, 2010 – SAN DIEGO, CA -- President and founder Patricia Dill of Biotech Recruiters announced today that it’s time for a new paradigm in the recruiting industry. “After a decade of internet job boards, social networking sites, and a sluggish economy, it’s time to change not only the way recruiters charge, but also the way they search, allowing more options to fit the different needs of clients ranging from major corporations to local start-ups.“
When asked how her competitors will feel about the reduced prices, Dill responded by saying while she respects many in the industry, her first obligation is to the needs of her clients, many of whom have actually thanked her for being one of the first to take such a bold step. “When I started this business back in the late 1990’s I was one of the first to take advantage of internet job boards and was highly criticized for doing so. Today, it’s unheard of for even the largest retained search companies not to use the internet as a valuable resource. I always knew with the advent of the internet, the way recruiters searched and charged would eventually need to change. It’s especially important in a client based business to think ahead and have the courage to take the necessary first step. I’m just the first to do what the others are going to eventually have to do.”
Biotech Recruiters will still offer the percentage fee contingency 'industry standard', but has added three additional low coast flat fee options for full professional searches. In addition to various full search options, a cyberspace “Search and Screen (sourcing) option” has also been added. For the mere price of an ad, Biotech Recruiters will place cyber ads, search the web, screen the resumes, and send the best off to the ordering client to “do the rest.” While not a big fan of the major job boards such as Monster.com and Hotjobs, (at least for biotech jobs), Dill admits “ If you know where to look , how and where to advertise, and especially how to screen, some of the best candidates are often found in cyberspace. Recruiters in the industry always know where to find the on-line niche job sites.“
According to Dill, an industry veteran in both biotech and recruiting, the greatest asset of a professional recruiter is in identifying talent. The biggest complaint of her clients, after cost, is the amount of unqualified resumes they receive from ads and company websites. The volume of resumes often simply overwhelms human resource departments. In these cases, a life science technical recruiter who not only understands the technology and the competition, but has worked in the industry, is invaluable to an understaffed, non technical, busy HR group.
When asked if professional recruiters will become totally unnecessary, Dill responded. “Despite all the resources and technological scanning devices of the cyber world, good professional and technical recruiters will always be needed in the biotech industry, perhaps just in different ways. The human element is simply irreplaceable. I can look at a resume and in less than 60 seconds get a pretty good feel if the candidate is lying, overstating, or a potential gem. Between that and a 3 minute phone call, a good recruiter usually garners all that is necessary to either pass or pursue. There are simply a million clues one gets by a brief personal interaction and a quick glance at a resume, especially through a set of ‘experienced eyes’ who understand the industry, the competition, and the technology. The human element is something that can never be replaced by technology.”
Dill has creatively structured the various (five) options in “time sensitive ways”, assuring clients of no reduction of quality regardless of which option they choose. It’s actually a win-win-win. Biotech Recruiters can do more searches, more clients can afford to use our services, and we have more jobs to offer to our candidates. Everybody wins!
