Exploring a new city for work or for play is an exciting experience, and we all know that when we’re traveling for business, we try to make the most out of the little free time we have on the road. Especially in a beautiful, lively city like San Francisco, this can be a great opportunity to try local cuisine and hunt for the most happening happy hours.
BioSpace did a little digging and inquired with the locals of San Francisco to bring you a list of some of the best places to visit while you’re in town for the 2016 BIO International Convention:
For your morning jolt.
The locals have spoken and voted Blue Bottle Coffee the number one locale for a cup of joe as you head out to BIO or stop in for an afternoon pick-me-up. We checked and the closest location is at 66 Mint Street. While you’re there, check out their full breakfast and lunch menus, served until 2pm.
For an incredible sandwich.
Try The Grove, noted in news publications such as the New York Times for its “living room” atmosphere. In a quick 5-minute walk from the Moscone Center at 690 Mission Street, you can satisfy your cravings for breakfast, lunch or dinner and relax with a delicious sandwich and cool cocktail.
For a local craft brew.
The Thirsty Bear is a certified organic craft brewery and full-service Spanish restaurant. They’ve got the beer for you, whether you want something light and crisp or dark and spicy and their menu specializes in tapas and paella, featuring produce and meats from local farmers in California. Find something delicioso at 661 Howard Street.
For a moment of zen.
Samovar Tea Lounge – Yerba Buena Gardens, located at 730 Howard Street, features international fare, including vegan and gluten-free options, as well as wine, beer, and cocktails. The beautiful location will allow you to have a moment of calm after an intense day at BIO.
For a glass of red (or white):
Jamber Wine Pub is known for featuring a hand-picked selection of California’s finest wines and local brews, all served on tap. The food menu features “American comfort food” and will make you feel right at home with the Mac ‘n Cheese Pizza munchie or Meatloaf Sammy entrée. Check it out at 858 Folsom Street.
For a taste of Thai.
Koh Samui & The Monkey, located about a half mile from the convention at 415 Brannan Street, has lunch and dinner menus packed with flavorful, traditional Thai dishes, including a section of vegetarian dishes. On top of that, they host a killer happy hour featuring beer and wine specials and small plates for snacking after a hard day of being on your feet.
Wherever you go in San Francisco, make sure to have some fun! We’ll see you around town!
