Beaufort Memorial Hospital (BMH), located in Beaufort, South Carolina, selected Wireless CareCollect to improve the specimen collection process, and Wireless BloodCare, to verify blood products prior to transfusion. The decision was voted upon by an informal committee, consisting of Nursing Managers, Phlebotomists, IT specialists, and Blood Bank personnel. Each member of the committee participated in several demos and felt that Care Fusion’s functionality, ease of integration, and real time capabilities were the best for BMH and their patients.

wCareCollect(TM) improves the specimen collection process. Using barcode patient identification technology and label printing on portable printers, this application supports patient confirmation and documentation of specimen collected at the time of collection. This confirmation process assures that the specimens collected are labeled for the correct patient, thereby reducing the opportunity for errors and enhancing patient safety.
wBloodCare(TM), the first product of its type to receive FDA 510(k) clearance, provides functionality for confirmation of the patient and the blood product order and then completes a cross check of this information to the blood product prior to transfusion activity. This assures that the correct patient is receiving the correct blood product and matched unit.
