PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- AmeriHealth HMO, Inc. has received federal approval to offer a new Medicare Advantage “special needs” product to low-income Medicare beneficiaries.
The new “zero-premium” AmeriHealth 65 product is one of only two such plans in the nation to be approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide special, customized health care benefits for “special needs” Medicare beneficiaries.
The AmeriHealth 65 special needs product covers elderly or disabled Medicare beneficiaries who also qualify for Medicaid and/or Medicare Part B premium assistance. The product is available in Berks, Lancaster, Lehigh and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania.
According to CMS analysis, special needs beneficiaries who are typically in fair or poor health can save about $2,000 per year in out-of-pocket costs by joining Medicare Advantage plans like the new AmeriHealth 65 plan.
“We’re dedicated to providing our members with access to quality health care and to do all we can to help them afford coverage,” said G. Fred DiBona, Jr., President and CEO of AmeriHealth HMO, Inc. “We’re elated that the Medicare Modernization Act has expanded our ability to provide this special needs community with greater access to more affordable, coordinated care.”
“We made an investment in seniors and it is paying off with greater access to health care at more affordable costs,” Tommy G. Thompson, Secretary of Health and Human Services, said recently. “We are reversing a trend of seniors losing access to Medicare Advantage plans each year in an environment where plans are expanding coverage and lowering costs.”
Medicare beneficiaries interested in receiving additional information about this special needs plan may contact AmeriHealth 65 at (866) 282-3235.
