d-Wise announced today that AstraZeneca has purchased the d-Wise software solution for de-identification of clinical trial data. This is a critical step in securing patient privacy across the biopharmaceutical industry’s data sharing initiatives. As more and more biopharmaceutical companies participate in industry transparency activities, the ability to balance the desire to satisfy researchers with patient-level data while protecting patient confidentiality requires streamlining existing manual data de-identification processes with an automated software-driven approach.
Morrisville, NC – March 31, 2015 - d-Wise, the leading life science and healthcare technology consulting and solution provider, announced today that AstraZeneca has licensed their clinical trial data de-identification software solution. This solution will streamline AstraZeneca’s efforts to support their ongoing patient-level clinical trial data transparency initiatives that move historically proprietary research data into the hands of qualified external researchers with the goal of improving worldwide public health.
Before patient-level data can be made available for external use, it is critical that the data be de-identified to protect patient privacy in accordance with US, EU and international laws. As more and more data from clinical trials is made available through data transparency initiatives, the application of manual processes simply do not provide the scalability and reliability to deliver high quality de-identification capabilities in a timely fashion.
“AstraZeneca has been successfully de-identifying clinical trial data for some time,” stated James Armbrust, Head, Clinical Trial Transparency & Disclosure at AstraZeneca. “As we expand the availability and sharing of our patient-level clinical trial data to support the improvement of healthcare, we decided to streamline our processes further. d-Wise’s software solution will help us to achieve this in a way that continues to safeguard the quality of the data.”
The d-Wise de-identification solution is easily deployed through a simple browser interface, and incorporates a wide variety of clinical trials and healthcare de-identification rules that can be customized to individual projects. The availability of a point-and-click interface, instead of a programming interface, means that the software solution can be used by a broad set of users providing considerably more flexibility than the current approach today.
“d-Wise is excited to have partnered with AstraZeneca on the development of this industry de-identification solution,” stated John Leveille, CEO at d-Wise. Their expertise has been extremely helpful in the development and refinement of our solution, and we strongly believe that other biopharmaceutical companies will see value in the solution for their own organizations.”
With more than 20 life sciences companies actively engaging in clinical trial data transparency and sharing initiatives, there is a clear need to streamline the availability of de-identified data. To learn more about d-Wise’s solution, please visit: http://www.d-wise.com/clinical-de-identification
