Ascension Orthopedics, Inc. Announces First Implantations of TITAN(TM) Modular Shoulder

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Ascension Orthopedics, Inc., the world leader in PyroCarbon orthopedic devices, announces the first implantations of the TITAN Modular Total Shoulder. William B. Geissler, M.D. performed the surgeries at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.

“I am very pleased with the results of the surgical procedures. By impacting the bone rather than traditional reaming, the humeral stems have an excellent press fit, are very stable and bone preserving a big advantage over other systems. The postoperative radiographs showed a good anatomic fit,” stated Dr. Geissler. “The instrumentation is straightforward, simplifying the procedure and making it more time efficient. The key feature of the prosthesis is the advanced modularity, which allows the implant to be used in a wide variety of patients and indications in my practice.”

The TITAN Modular Shoulder System offers a bone preserving option for patients needing total or hemi shoulder arthroplasty. The modularity of the system allows the surgeon to independently select distal stems and proximal bodies to suit patient anatomy and bone quality. The system is fully interchangeable all primary and fracture bodies can be used with either press-fit or cemented stems. There are 26 humeral head sizes available, and multiple glenoid options are included for patients needing total shoulder replacement.

“The first implantations of the TITAN Modular Total Shoulder are a great accomplishment for Ascension,” commented Guy Mayer, President and CEO of Ascension Orthopedics. “We look forward to the continued success of the TITAN Modular Total Shoulder as well as the expansion of our shoulder product line. The system will debut during an anatomic skills workshop on October 24 at the International Symposium on Shoulder and Elbow Trauma in Scottsdale, Arizona.”
