NPS Allelix Inc. Announces Support for First U.S. Rare Disease Day Observance

BEDMINSTER, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NPS Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company developing therapeutics for rare gastrointestinal and endocrine disorders, announced today its alliance with the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) to support the first U.S. Rare Disease Day celebration on February 28. NORD is coordinating this observance with the support of more than 200 patient organizations, professional societies, government agencies, medical researchers and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to raise awareness about rare diseases. According to the National Institutes of Health, there are nearly 7,000 rare diseases affecting nearly 30 million Americans.
