Johnson & Johnson's Ethicon, Inc. to Build Facility, Create New Jobs in $175 Million GA Expansion

Atlanta Business Chronicle by Jacques Couret, Senior Online Editor

Medical company Ethicon Inc. will spend $185 million to add a 100,000-square-foot facility in Athens, Ga., creating 75 jobs through 2016.

The new facility compliments its Cornelia, Ga., facility, which produces the majority of the world’s supply of surgical sutures, Gov. Nathan Deal’s office said.

The new facility will be constructed on the current site of Ethicon’s sister company, Noramco Inc., which has operated the Athens facility since 1981 and makes pharmaceutical ingredients used in medications and medical devices.

Both companies are subsidiaries of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), which employs 1,000 Georgians.
