Device Maker Continues to Broaden Product Portfolio with a Unique Blue, Lightweight yet Strong, Mesh for Sacrocolpopexy
AGOURA HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Caldera Medical announced the launch of Vertessa Lite, a supple, lightweight yet strong polypropylene mesh for use in abdominal sacrocolpopexy procedures. Vertessa Lite is a large pore, monofilament, polypropylene mesh that is uniquely blue in color for exceptional visibility and handling. Vertessa Lite is the thinnest mesh indicated specifically for sacrocolpopexy procedures, yet it is 63% stronger than the market leading mesh for sacrocolpopexy. Large pore and lightweight mesh is widely recognized to improve host tissue acceptance, while strength is important for the durability of the repair. Caldera Medical offers Vertessa™ Lite in three sizes with lengths up to 30 cm and a Y-Mesh design as well.
Abdominal sacrocolpopexy procedures are expected to grow approximately 15% in 2013 due to a shift from transvaginal prolapse repair procedures. Sacrocolpopexy procedures treat vaginal vault prolapse, a type of Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP). POP is one of the most common quality of life conditions facing women with nearly 50% of all women who give birth vaginally developing POP. A woman’s lifetime probability for undergoing a surgical treatment to correct POP is approximately 11%. Patients with POP often present with a dual diagnosis of stress urinary incontinence (SUI), and Caldera Medical’s SUI implant, Desara®, can be used together in the same surgical procedure as Vertessa Lite. Desara is a universal sling system that provides surgeons with their choice of multiple surgical approaches by utilizing reusable instrumentation. Caldera Medical is the only U.S. Company offering this unique solution, which benefits surgeons, hospitals, and the environment.
Richard Farnam, MD, one of the nation’s leading experts in Robotic Gynecologic Surgery and Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgeon at Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso, TX, commented, “Vertessa Lite represents a significant advance in sacrocolpopexy mesh. Vertessa Lite is lightweight, easy to handle, conforms well to the patient’s anatomy, and has greater tensile strength than other lightweight meshes, which is important to me.”
