Apotex Corp. Seeks Incentives for 108 Jobs, $103 Million Investment in Coral Springs

Broward County and Coral Springs are looking to offer Apotex Corp. public incentives to create 108 jobs and invest $102.9 million in a generic drug manufacturing facility in the city. The county commission will hear the incentive offer for the Toronto-based company at the Feb. 12 meeting. Apotex entered Broward in 1999 when it acquired transdermal patch manufacturer Aveva in Miramar. Between Weston and Miramar, it has 360 people in the county now. Apotex is considering moving its Miramar operations to a larger facility in Coral Springs and then building out additional generic drug manufacturing operations there, said Bob Swindell, CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, which is working with Apotex on the application. This would be done by doing major renovation on a 250,000-square-foot warehouse at 4250 Coral Ridge Drive, which has been vacant for three years after CD and DVD distributor Alliance Entertainment left, Swindell said.
